We are here! The 7th WIFFAC!

The 7th World International Freight Forwarders Alliance Convention with their theme “Gaining from Overseas” officially started on 20th Nov and continued on to 21st Nov. Our G.H Forwarding team also took part since we are a member.  WIFFA is an international logistics Credit Cooperation Organization established by Shipping China in 2009.

The convention was held on 20th Nov, with lots of professional logistics specialists sharing their experience about how WIFFA expands themselves to Europe, Japan, Australia and Africa, and also how to seize the chance of development logistics in Yangtze River Delta.

This is a great opportunity for all the logistics companies in China to learn and share how to go abroad, come up with suitable solutions to deal with different kind of shipments or transportation in foreign area. We all know that as globalization is growing stronger and stronger, Chinese logistics companies will need to face this, and we need to co-ordinate our efforts and grow together to make it a better future for the logistics industry.  It was a great meeting and we also learned a lot from the convention!

Banquet at night

This is The banquet on the night of the convention.  It boasted plenty of fun and games and other entertainment, but most of all, there was plenty of connections made between everyone – of course the alcohol being served helped too 🙂

On 21st Nov, we were one of the many members to display our company and services by having our own booth. We met a lot of Chinese logistics companies who can provide excellent logistics services, in these cases we can work together and compliment each other to provide more services to our respective clients.  We can work like we are family and cover the routes all around the world with the most comprehensive and high quality services.

We always believe that we can make it a bright future for logistics. We, G.H Forwarding, are always by your side whenever you need us, we are your agent in China!

Our Vietnam office is 1 year old!

Our Vietnam office, G.H Logistics is 1 year old now!  Here are some of the memories over the past year…

In the beginning, the branch office only consisted of our branch manager, Ms. Lotus and Mia, the very first members of the team in Vietnam.  Then, Linh and Tee joined the team shortly after and we spent our first Christmas together.  We shared much joy and happiness care for each other, while at the same time creating many memories.

The first time we met our company chairman and Mr. Hawk, they had travelled a long way from China to Vietnam to meet us in person.  Our chairman is a very handsome man, and our Mia went so far as to say he is so nice and makes us feel very comfortable and like part of a family.  We had a cosy dinner to celebrate the opening of our Vietnam office and at that time, the U23 Vietnam reached the very first high award as the 2nd ranked of AFC U23 Championship, so this adds to a beautiful memory for us to keep in our hearts.

We have also had the chance to visit China as new members of the G.H. family during the annual dinner which is normally held after the Chinese New Year.  All members from the Vietnam office flew to Ningbo to take part.

What left us with a deep impression and touched our hearts was the RMB 520 we received from our company chairman, it means 我爱你 in Chinese.  Very sweet, don’t you think?

So a lot of time has passed and we have been together for more than 365 days now as a family, we have grown and have more members now.  Our big sister, Ms. Lily, Ms. Sammie, our sweetheart Nicole and some internship friends, we have right to think about the big and bright future that the G.H family holds for all of us.

We can’t promise that everything will be perfect but we know that we will become better day by day, step by step.

You have shown and given me a reason to be a better one. Thank you to the G.H family!

In case you didn’t know…

We’ve been around for a long time now in different networks such as the WCA, JCTrans, GLA, WIFFA and iSEA, and though we have branch offices in Shanghai, Qingdao, Guangzhou (also covering Shenzhen) and Hochiminh (Vietnam) – and very soon in Tianjin – we generally focus more on what we can do in Ningbo where our headquarters is based.

The reason?  When attending network meetings, you will have access to many companies from China and you’ll find that no company can be best at everything in every place, so while I can say our service mentality and efficiency is more or less the same throughout our company, I can’t say that our branch offices are as strong as our headquarters in Ningbo.

In Ningbo – while not boring you with the facts of what a general freight forwarder can do – we are also direct booking agents.  In northern and eastern China, you need to be a booking agent in order to book directly to a shipping line, in other words, you need to work with a booking agent such as ourselves.  We have direct contracts with the shipping lines, while other forwarders who don’t have this status (class 1 forwarder) will have to submit their bookings to us.

In this respect, we can work quicker and more efficient for your bookings.  Whether you use our service contracts with shipping lines on PREPAID or your own service contracts on COLLECT, we will give you the same quick and efficient service for your ocean freight bookings, ensuring you get information sent to you as soon as WE know.

Then, if you like how we work in Ningbo, maybe you would also consider our service from our other branch offices.  That’s the general idea.  So next time if you bump into me at a network meeting, stop me and say “hi” to learn more.  It’s good to connect 😉

Signing Ceremony of Ru Zi Niu Entrepreneur Scholarship

Recently, our company chairman, Mr. Zhou Lingfeng visited Zhejiang Shuren University and signed a contract to set up the Ru Zi Niu Entrepreneur Scholarship with the Humanities and Foreign Language Department. Ru Zi Niu(孺子牛) means with a hardworking spirit, people can progress step by step and eventually be successful.

Our company chairman always believed that a Ru Zi Niu spirit will help young men and women alike to achieve self-worth. We are so proud that our company chairman is now the enterprise tutor of Zhejiang Shuren University, and also making G.H Forwarding a practice base for innovative ventures.

Actually, our company has been in cooperation with the Humanities and Foreign Language Department of Zhejiang Shuren University for many years now, and over these years, 16 students have become part of our company.

Only with the effort of both the University and GH Forwarding, the signing ceremony can work so well. We will improve the cooperation and keep moving on to make more contributions toour society.

Let’s develop together and make a better future!

Office Safety Improvement in Shanghai Branch Office

We all know that working in the logistics industry means we need to stay for a long time in front of a computer in the office.  Maybe you would never think that it could be harmful for you to just sitting there, but in actual fact, if could be and we need to take more notice about our health and safety while we are working in the office.

Recently, our Shanghai branch office went though an equipment improvement process funded by our labor union which helped all our colleagues to have a more comfortable working environment.  We added a small table on each employee’s table like below:

This small table can help us to set the computer to a proper and suitable height for viewing without putting too much strain on our backs and necks. Usually our set or monitor is not high enough, we would lower our heads and bend our waist, these action could hurt our cervical and lumbar vertebrae, which is bad for our health.

With the help of the small tables to reach a suitable height, our eyes can stay at a suitable level with the computer screen, which relieves the pressure of our shoulders and back, and also we don’t need to bend our waists for a long time, the backbone is well-protected this way.

Also, the small table can help to keep you working with a correct posture. This is just one way to protect our neck and waist. Here we will share more tips to help you work in a more safe and comfortable office, let do it:

  • Keep your desk tidy. Just clean up all the mess on your desk, you will feel less pressure and more productive:)
  • Bring an eye mask with you. When you take a rest at noon break, the eye mask will help you to have a better sleep and more energetic in the afternoon.
  • Not just noon break, you also need some short break and move your body after working for 1-2 hours which should be regular, to release your body from a fixed posture.
  • Do some exercises after work like a jogging, it’s good for your health anyway.

Everyone should take care and place more attention to matters of health whether it be in the office or daily life. It can greatly help us to live or work in a more efficient and happier way!

The Hangzhou Marathon & GH Forwarding

Hangzhou is a beautiful city and also the capital and most populous city of Zhejiang Province in East China.  It’s located at the head of Hangzhou Bay which separates Shanghai and Ningbo.

If you ever get the chance, you should definitely visit this beautiful city.  I myself have had the chance to visit on several occasions back when I used to live in Shanghai.  I would compare it to Lake Windermere in northwest, England, but only being around half the size.

However, the surroundings cannot be compared, which is also why it is one of the top ten scenic areas in China.  Its also listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO since 2011.  From the pictures above, I’m sure you can begin to imagine why.

Last weekend, the 32nd Hangzhou Marathon was held – yes it began all the way back in 1987.  It is the second longest marathon race in Chinese history and it’s considered as a world-class Marathon recognised by the Chinese Athletic Association and the Association of International Marathon and Road Races.

We had 3 people registered for the race each in a different race category, 5k couples run, half marathon and the full marathon.

So it started on a cool and foggy morning, but everyone was raring to go!

Hark, our half marathon runner was captured going strong.

Our company chairman, Mr. Zhou Lingfeng, running strong full marathons in his mid-50s.

He was also captured looking pretty relaxed during the run.  Both he and Hark are seasoned marathon runners.  Mr. Zhou this year broke through the sub 4hr full marathon running mark and he also did so this time.

A special mention should go to Elien though, he ran with his wife in what was his 3rd ever competitive 5k run.  Over the years I’ve tried to get him running, even 2 or 3k, but never succeeded.  What he needed wasn’t a push from me, it was a push from his wife 🙂

Well done to everyone!  We continue to try and promote health and fitness within our company and I’m sure there will be another run soon!
