Typhoon appears, careful shipment

Every summer, there are typhoons that scare the shipping industry. The tempestuous typhoon brings great loss of life and property to the coastal areas. It also brings great troubles to cargo owners, shipping lines and freight forwarders.

What impact will the typhoon have on shipments? When the typhoon makes landfall, the relevant ports stop working and the voyage schedule will delay, cargo is likely to be directly immersed in the water, damp or damaged and so on. Here are photos and descriptions to show the typhoon's troubles for the shipping industry:

Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 7 "Weipa",Chiwan, Shekou and Yantian container terminals released yellow warning. All the container operations at the gate were stopped, and the Dachan Bay terminal also stopped the empty container service, and the Shenzhen port was closed for one day. These led to the centralized return containers to the port and extract containers from the port, which made a heavy traffic on each road into the port on 1st August when ports opened the gate. It's normal to be stuck for seven or eight hours on the road!

Typhoon "Weipa" caused blockage of Shenzhen's inbound road container fleet

Typhoon "Lekima", the No.9 typhoon, began to affect Shanghai and Zhejiang provinces, on Thursday evening, August 10, and continued through the weekend. Shanghai and Ningbo shipments were unexpectedly affected. The shipping lines issued a notice on the 7th August, stopped releasing S/O on the 8th, and did not accept all the container-type requirements for changing the pick-up point from the dock. At that time, the container could not be picked up or returned. In order to avoid the impact on the picking up of the containers. During the typhoon, the relevant staff were actively informed to pick up the containers at Yangshan wharf on 8th ASAP.

In order to minimize the damage caused by typhoons to the shipping industry, shipping lines, freight forwarders and cargo owners need to take certain defensive measures:

1. Before the typhoon strikes, the shipping lines will take effective measures to protect the port and navigation in advance, stop the dock operation, delay the shipping date appropriately, which will result in demurrage fee and container detention fee and so on, at the meantime will lead to the congestion of the port access road before and after the typhoon. The extra cost caused by the container cannot enter the dock or board the ship due to typhoon doesn't need to be borne by the customer.

Water operations and passing ships in the relevant waters shall return to the port to take shelter from the wind, reinforce port facilities, and prevent grounding and collision of ships by anchoring.

2. The freight forwarder will also timely send a notice to the consignor/consignee, so that they can cooperate with the relevant operations before the terminal stops working, to avoid the customer's concern about the transportation of the goods or the work schedule affecting the effective time. Reduce customer concerns about the goods and avoid work schedules that affect effective time.

3. As for the consignor and consignee, they should be as patient as possible, reasonably arrange shipment, purchase All Risk insurance for their cargo accordingly, pay close attention to their cargo dynamics, keep close contact with the freight forwarder, and try their best to cooperate with the instructions and arrangements of the freight forwarder and the shipping line.

This summer is coming to an end, I hope that this year's typhoon is also. No matter how choppy the typhoon is, G.H Forwarding has more than 27 years of freight forwarding experience, can keep calm in face of danger, do its best to handle shipments properly for customers, and provide customers with the confidence and trust. There is such a saying " Special reporter for Typhoon Day ", then " Special freight forwarder for Typhoon Day ", you can choose G.H Forwarding.

Introduction of China Railway Express

China Railway Express – the trains between China and Europe and all the other countries along the route of “One Belt, One Road”  according to the fixed trainschedules and numbers.

This train route was mainly developed by China, gathering lots of railway agents, logistics agents and owners of cargo together from countries in Asia and Europe.  It is the longest international railway transportation route in the world for now.

In 2018, in total, 6300 trains were ran which increased 72% year-on-year. With 56 domestic cities, it can reach 49 cities in 15 European countries which is better progress than previous year.  However there were some problems, for example, empty containers were limited, and also the charges of each country is different, some of it pretty high.  Customs clearance is also a big problem in some cases.

Here are some suggestions for China Railway Express to improve the service:

1. Promptly study and solve existing problems.

2. Improving Transport Documents.

3. Continue to attract cargo flows from neighbouring countries or regions to utilize Sino-European liner transport.

4. To reduce the logistics cost of China and Europe, start specific business training, and continue to improve and expand the “One Belt, One Road” logistics corridor.

Since the operations of each part is continuously improving, we believe that there are more and more chances to develop more in the near future whether it be in economy or politics, China Railway Express is always a solid foundationfor these developments!

The Year of the Pig

According to Chinese tradition, this year is the year of the Pig.

Why does China have the year of Pig?

The Chinese Yinyang principle consists of a 12-year cycle, each year of which is named after a different animal that imparts distinct characteristics to its year. The ancient Yinyang principle constructed a fantastic system of 10 heavenly stems and 12 mundane branches. The latter correspond to 12 animals with two symbolic functions. Each animal is mystically related to one year in a 12-year cycle.

It is known as “The Chinese Zodiac”. The Chinese zodiac features 12 animals in the sequence of Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each animal represents a different “personality”.

According to legend, people held a conference with all the animals, informing them that they would pick the 12 to represent the zodiac.

According to myths, here’s what happened:

It was coming up to the new year and twelve animals were arguing. There was a rat, an ox, a tiger, a sheep, a rabbit, a dragon, a snake, a dog, a horse, a rooster, a monkey, and a pig. They thought the new year should have a name. They were arguing because each animal wanted the year to be named after himself.

There was such a noise that they disturbed the Jade Emperor.

“Whatever is the matter with you, animals?” Jade Emperor asked.

One by one, they explained their problem.

The Jade Emperor thought it over.

“I’ve got an idea.” He said. “Can you see that big river? Why not have a race across it? We can name this new year after the winner of the race.”

All the animals agreed that this was a good idea, but each one secretly thought that they would be the winner. They all hurried to the river and lined up for the race.

“Ready, steady, go!”

With a mighty splash, the animals leaped into the river and started swimming as fast as they could towards the other side.

Now, the rat wasn’t the best swimmer, but he was the cleverest animal. He saw that the ox was going to win the race, so he swam as fast as he could and grabbed hold of the ox’s tail. He climbed up the tail onto the ox’s back. Just before the ox reached the other side of the river, the rat leaped over his head onto the bank.

“Hurray! I’m the winner!” He squeaked, “Heeheehee!”

“Hard luck, ox!” Laughed the Jade Emperor.

“You’re very strong, but rat was too clever for you this time. We will call this year the year of the rat. Ox, you were the second, so next year will be the year of the ox.”

One by one, the other animals finished the race.

“Oh, well done!” Said the Jade Emperor. “We will name a year after each of you in the same order that you finished the race.”

This is just one of the many myths about the origin of the Chinese Zodiac.

In June, China became the fifth largest UK Export market and the fourth largest source of imports.

The top four commodities that Britain exports to China are precious metal products, transportation equipment, mechanical and electrical products as well as mineral products. From January to June, each month’s export value is were USD3.92 billion, USD3.20 billion, USD1.84 billion and USD1.74 billion, respectively, accounting for 27.0%, 22.0%, 12.7% and 12.0% of total UK export to China.

The first “London renminbi business quarterly report” jointly released by the City of London and the People’s Bank of China’s European representative office on September 26 shows that the second quarter of this year was 69 billion pounds, at the same time, London has become the world’s second largest offshore RMB clearing center.

The first China International Import Expo brought new opportunities for close cooperation between China and the UK, and worked more closely with Chinese partners to explore more Chinese buyers. The UK Pavilion will show the world’s leading companies in the fields of healthcare and life sciences, finance and professional services, education, creative industries, artificial intelligence and big data with innovation as the theme. In addition to the National Pavilion, UK companies including Jaguar Land Rover, British Airways, AstraZeneca, Standard Chartered Bank, etc., also set up booths at the Expo.

The Chinese and British sides have both adapted to the changes of the times, combining the development stages of the two countries and the needs of cooperation to endow the Chinese and British relations with a new era connotation and create an enhanced version of the “Golden Age”  together. Under the leadership of British Prime Minister, we believe that UK will continue to keep open after the Brexit so that UK and China can have a expectation of establishing a broader economic and trade relationship and open a new era of cooperation and partner vision.

Our company expects the two sides can build a “globalized Britain” and a “global China” for the benefit of the two countries.
