Office Safety Improvement in Shanghai Branch Office

We all know that working in the logistics industry means we need to stay for a long time in front of a computer in the office.  Maybe you would never think that it could be harmful for you to just sitting there, but in actual fact, if could be and we need to take more notice about our health and safety while we are working in the office.

Recently, our Shanghai branch office went though an equipment improvement process funded by our labor union which helped all our colleagues to have a more comfortable working environment.  We added a small table on each employee’s table like below:

This small table can help us to set the computer to a proper and suitable height for viewing without putting too much strain on our backs and necks. Usually our set or monitor is not high enough, we would lower our heads and bend our waist, these action could hurt our cervical and lumbar vertebrae, which is bad for our health.

With the help of the small tables to reach a suitable height, our eyes can stay at a suitable level with the computer screen, which relieves the pressure of our shoulders and back, and also we don’t need to bend our waists for a long time, the backbone is well-protected this way.

Also, the small table can help to keep you working with a correct posture. This is just one way to protect our neck and waist. Here we will share more tips to help you work in a more safe and comfortable office, let do it:

  • Keep your desk tidy. Just clean up all the mess on your desk, you will feel less pressure and more productive:)
  • Bring an eye mask with you. When you take a rest at noon break, the eye mask will help you to have a better sleep and more energetic in the afternoon.
  • Not just noon break, you also need some short break and move your body after working for 1-2 hours which should be regular, to release your body from a fixed posture.
  • Do some exercises after work like a jogging, it’s good for your health anyway.

Everyone should take care and place more attention to matters of health whether it be in the office or daily life. It can greatly help us to live or work in a more efficient and happier way!

The Hangzhou Marathon & GH Forwarding

Hangzhou is a beautiful city and also the capital and most populous city of Zhejiang Province in East China.  It’s located at the head of Hangzhou Bay which separates Shanghai and Ningbo.

If you ever get the chance, you should definitely visit this beautiful city.  I myself have had the chance to visit on several occasions back when I used to live in Shanghai.  I would compare it to Lake Windermere in northwest, England, but only being around half the size.

However, the surroundings cannot be compared, which is also why it is one of the top ten scenic areas in China.  Its also listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO since 2011.  From the pictures above, I’m sure you can begin to imagine why.

Last weekend, the 32nd Hangzhou Marathon was held – yes it began all the way back in 1987.  It is the second longest marathon race in Chinese history and it’s considered as a world-class Marathon recognised by the Chinese Athletic Association and the Association of International Marathon and Road Races.

We had 3 people registered for the race each in a different race category, 5k couples run, half marathon and the full marathon.

So it started on a cool and foggy morning, but everyone was raring to go!

Hark, our half marathon runner was captured going strong.

Our company chairman, Mr. Zhou Lingfeng, running strong full marathons in his mid-50s.

He was also captured looking pretty relaxed during the run.  Both he and Hark are seasoned marathon runners.  Mr. Zhou this year broke through the sub 4hr full marathon running mark and he also did so this time.

A special mention should go to Elien though, he ran with his wife in what was his 3rd ever competitive 5k run.  Over the years I’ve tried to get him running, even 2 or 3k, but never succeeded.  What he needed wasn’t a push from me, it was a push from his wife 🙂

Well done to everyone!  We continue to try and promote health and fitness within our company and I’m sure there will be another run soon!

Where will China make up its lost trade following the trade war with the US.

Against the backdrop of Trump’s trade war, there has been a momentum for the EU and Asia to speed up the opening of their markets to forge closer economic ties; leading to unprecedented economic growth compared to the last decade. Indeed, in 2017, exports from Europe to Asia were larger than that of the US and are growing twice as fast than the year before.[1]This trade war between the US and China allows us to see that the EU is becoming a much more important market for Asia and most notably China, creating a sense of urgency for nearly every country to establish new free trade agreements in order to integrate and participate in this new wealth of opportunity. Unsurprisingly, we have seen the Leaders of the European Union take part in two Asian summits in a row: with China on July 16 and with Japan on July 17, where we saw a signing of a free trade agreement between the EU and Japan and China reaching an agreement on WTO reform.

China

China is Russia’s largest trading partner, and it comes as no surprise that the two superpowers plan to boost trade to $200 billion by 2020. Not only that, but there has already been a 30% increase in trade in the first quarter of 2018. The lost trade between the US and China, from commodities, raw materials and goods such as clothing, soy beans and more that used to be imported and exported in and from China, due to the high tariffs imposed, will now be directed to Russia, the Eurasian Union and closer trading partners. Indeed, China is working with Moscow to build a high-speed rail link between the two, which should be operational by 2019. China and Russia are also exploring the development of the North Sea Passage, an Arctic route that, once built, will considerably reduce maritime transit times between China and Europe and Russia. All of these initiatives are an attempt by China to improve trade with countries around it and therefore rely less so on the US for its exports. Furthermore, the breakdown of barriers, lowering tariffs and promoting globalisation will allow for a more efficient world trade cycle. With higher competition due to lower prices coming into the market for goods and services, businesses will have to become more efficient and save costs, allowing for cheaper prices for more people, increasing living standards.

China

As Europe and China forge closer economic ties, we will see a profound development in businesses and trade between the two, most notably to ‘make-up’ the impact for the lost trade the upcoming US tariffs will have. The recent summit between EU leaders and China, the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang stressed the need to ‘uphold free trade and multilateralism’ due to the fact that the US and China are embroiled in a trade dispute. Not only does this create an opportunity for future trade developments, but also an exponential growth in logistics to handle this increase. For instance, the Qingdao port has been rebuilt and now features a fully automated system which is now the 7thbusiest port in the world and works with over 450 ports in 130 different countries. Moreover, China has been building mass infrastructure projects to open up trade such as the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge and the Silk Road Economic initiative are all ways China has seen to increase trade between the Eurasian Economic Union and the EU.

Overall, the trade relationship between China, Asia, the EU and Russia will develop exponentially over the coming years. China and its partners are currently negotiating a free-trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (Central Asian trade bloc. which includes Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus which borders with the EU). When the deal is finalized, this will bring Chinese goods, duty free to markets across Russia and to the borders of the EU itself, making up for the loss of trade with the US.
